Balaganj Upazila (Sylhet district) with an area of 389.51 sq km, is surrounded by Sylhet Sadar upazila on the north,Rajnagar upazila on the south,aFenchuganj upazila on the east, Bishwanath and Jaganathpur upazilas on the west.
Main rivers are Kushiyara, Barak; notable beels: Haila, Chepti, Kery, Karcha, Majail, Dhalai, Dhuburia, Beraghati.
Balaganj (Town) consists of two mouzas. The town has an area of 4.41 sq km. It has a population of 4919; male 54.42%, female 45.58%; density of population is 1115 per sq km. Literacy rate among the town people is 49.7%.
Administration Balaganj thana was established in 1882 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. It consists of 14 union parishads, 241 mouzas and 467 villages. Archaeological heritage and relics Akhra of Gauranga Mahaprabhu, remnants of Nagandra Das Chowdhury's residence, temple of Chandranath Sharma (Babnobazar).
Historical events During thewar of War of Liberation in 1971, two major encounters with the Pak army occurred at Sherpur and Sadipur in which the Pak army was defeated. Marks of War of Liberation Mass graves at Aadittapur, Burunga and Vatpara Solimpur.
