Bandarban Sadar Upazila (Bandarban district) with an area of 501.99 sq km is surrounded by Rajasthali upazila on the north, Lama upazila on the south, Rowangchhari and Ruma upazilas on the east, Rangunia,Chandnaish, Satkania and Lohagara upazilas on the west. 

Most part of the upazila is covered with hill ranges. There are a few rivers and fountains. Shankha (Sangu) is the main river of the upazila.

Bandarban (Town) The area of Bandarban municipality is 51.80 sq km. It has a population of 31806; male 60.22%, female 39.78%. It has 10 wards and 62 mahallas. There are 2 dakbungalows. Literacy rate among the town people is 56.8%. 

Administration Bandarban thana was established in 1923 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. It consists of 8 union parishads, 63 mouzas and 199 villages. Marks of War of Liberation Memorial 1.
