Boalia Thana (Rajshahi district) with an area of 43.37 sq km, is surrounded by Paba upazila and Shah Makhdum thana on the north,Ganges (Padma) river and West Bengal state of india on the south, Motiar and Paba, thanas on the east and Godagari upazila on the west. 

Boalia (Town) Boalia thana occupies a major part of the area of Rajshahi City Corporation. Rajshahi municipality was established in 1876 and the whole municipal area was under Boalia thana. Rajshahi municipality was turned into city corporation in 1987. It has one dakbungalow. 

Administration Boalia thana was established in 1987. It consists of 25 wards and 144 mouzas.Archaeological heritage and relics Tomb of Hazrat Shah Makhdum (1645), Barendra Research Museum (1910) and Bara Kuthi (eighteenth century).

Population 164056; male 51.83%, female 48.17%; Muslim 92.3%; Hindu 6.82% and others 0.88%; ethnic nationals: Santal, 675 families.
