Lakhai Upazila (Habiganj district) with an area of 196.56 sq km is surrounded by Austagram and Baniachang upazilas on the north, Nasirnagar upazila on the south, Habiganj Sadar ,Madhabpur and Nasirnagar upazilas on the east, Austagram upazila on the west. 

The upazila has 5 haors, 32 beels; main rivers are tentulia and Meghna. 

Lakhai (Town) consists of two mouzas. The area of the town is 7.81 sq km. The town has a population of 6775; male 48.53%, female 51.47%. Literacy rate among the town people is 49.5%. The town has one dakbungalow. 

Administration Lakhai thana, now an upazila, was established in 1922. It consists of 6 unions, 70 mouzas and 63 villages. 

Population 110219; male 49.20%, female 50.80%; Muslim 83.50%, Hindu 16.41% and others 0.09%.
