Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila (Laksmipur district) with an area of 514.78 sq km, is surrounded by Raipura, Ramgati and Chatkhil upazilas on the north, Begumganj upazila on the east,Daulatkhan,Ramgati and Noakhali Sadar upazilas on the south, Raipur,Mehendiganj and Bhola Sadar upazilas on the west.
Main Rivers are the Meghna (lower), Rahmatkhali and Koralia.
Lakshmipur Sadar (Town) stands on the bank of the Rahmatkhali, consists of 12 wards and 22 mahallas. Lakshmipur municipality was constituted in 1976. The area of the town is 16.88 sq km. The town has a population of 65398; male 52.07%, female 47.93%. The density of population is 3874 per sq km. The literacy rate among the town people is 45.1%.
Administration Lakshmipur thana was constituted under Noakhali district in 1860 and was transformed into an upazila in 1983. It consists of 1 municipality, 21 union parishads, 223 mouzas and 252 villages.

Historical events During the War of Liberation in 1971 a severe battle was fought between Pak-army and the freedom fighters near the district town in which a Pak-major was killed. At this juncture the freedom fighters demolished the Madam Bridge by bombing to prevent the advance of the Pak army.
