Porsha Upazila (Naogaon district) with an area of 252.83 sq km, is surrounded by Sapahar upazila on the north,Gomastapur,and Niamatpur upazilas on the south,Patnitala and Mahadebpur upazilas on the east, West Bengal on the west. 

It is a part of Barind tract and characterised physically by the Punarbhava River and Rukanpur Beel. 

The river Shiba has created the eastern boundary of this upazila.

Porsha (Town) consists of three mouzas with an area of 3.97 sq km. It has a population of 7743; male 51.66%, female 48.34%. Density of population is 1950 per sq km. Literacy rate among the town people is 24.4%.

Administration Porsha thana was established in 1933 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. It consists of six union parishads, 244 villages and 155 mouzas.

Population 97279; male 50.18% and female 49.82%; Muslim 84.84%, Hindu 11.40%, Christian 0.59%, Buddhist 0.06% and others 1.67%; ethnic nationals: Kurmi, Munda, Pahan Mura and Mal.
