Sonatola Upazila (Bogra district) with an area of 132.64 sq km, is surrounded by Sugatta and Gobindaganj upazilas on the north, Gabtali and Sariakandi upazilas on the south, Sariakandi upazila on the east, Shibganj (Bogra) and Gabtali upazilas on the west. 

Main rivers are Jamuna and Bangali; Satbeel, Mohicharan and Gobarchanpa Beels are notable. 

Sonatola (Town) consists of 3 mouzas. The area of the town is 4.94 sq km. The town has a population of 9982; male 51.35%, female 48.65%; density of population is 2021 per sq km.Literacy rate among the town people is 36.9%. 

Administration Sonatola thana was established in 1881 and was turned into an upazila in 1984. The upaila consists of six union parishads, 87 mouzas and 115 villages.
